AMAZON APPSTORE — 2026
Publishing on the Amazon Appstore in 2026: Fire tablets and Fire TV
Updated October 22, 2026
Where the Amazon Appstore still runs — and where it stopped
| Device | Amazon Appstore in 2026 | What it means for your app |
|---|---|---|
| Fire tablets (Fire OS) | Supported — the Appstore is the tablet's store | Your Android app installs there. Test it: no Google Play services, no Chrome by default. |
| Fire TV (Fire OS) | Supported | Needs a TV-ready app: remote navigation, landscape. Our Android TV build is made for it, not yet verified on Fire TV. |
| Fire TV (Vega OS, newer models) | Different system | Android apps do not run there. |
| Other Android phones and tablets | Ended on 20 August 2025 | Reach these users through Google Play and the Samsung Galaxy Store. |
| Windows 11 (Windows Subsystem for Android) | Ended on 5 March 2025 | No longer a channel. For Windows, build a desktop app. |
What the Amazon Appstore accepts, and what changes on a Fire device
- An APK or an Android App Bundle (AAB) — Amazon generates the APK for each Fire device from a bundle
- The same signed app as on Google Play: one build, one signing key, one package name
- No Google Play services on Fire OS: features that rely on them, such as Google push notifications, do not work
- No Chrome by default on Fire tablets: test the app on a real Fire device before you submit
- Digital goods sold inside the app go through Amazon In-App Purchasing
- A content rating questionnaire and a store listing: title, description, icon, screenshots
How to publish on the Amazon Appstore, step by step
- 1
Build your signed app from your URL
Paste your web address into SaasToStore and launch the build. You get a signed APK and App Bundle, the same files you use for Google Play.
- 2
Test it on a Fire tablet
Install the APK on a Fire tablet — or a Fire TV, for a TV app — and go through sign-in and your main flows. This is where a missing Google service shows up.
- 3
Create the app and its listing
In Amazon's developer console, add a new app with the same package name, then the title, description, icon and screenshots. SaasToStore can write the title, description and keywords from your site.
- 4
Upload the file and choose the devices
Upload the APK or App Bundle, check the Fire devices Amazon lists as compatible, and answer the content rating questionnaire.
- 5
Submit and read the result
Amazon installs and tests the app on its devices, usually within a few days, and emails you the result — with the reason if something needs fixing.
Is the Amazon Appstore worth it in 2026?
For most apps, Google Play comes first: it reaches far more Android users, and since August 2025 the Amazon Appstore no longer reaches them at all. Amazon is worth a listing when your audience owns Fire devices — kids and education apps, family tools, media and reading, kiosk-style screens on Fire TV. Competition is lower there, and since it takes the same build, the extra cost is a listing and a test on a Fire tablet. If your users are on Samsung phones, the Samsung Galaxy Store is the other Android store to consider; for televisions, see what Google Play requires for Android TV.

Amazon Appstore — frequently asked questions
Is the Amazon Appstore still available in 2026?+
Yes, on Amazon's own devices: Fire tablets and Fire TV. Amazon stopped supporting the Appstore on other Android phones and tablets on 20 August 2025, and its Windows 11 version ended with Microsoft's Windows Subsystem for Android on 5 March 2025.
Does Amazon charge a fee to publish?+
The Amazon developer account is free, with no annual fee. Amazon keeps 30% of paid apps and in-app purchases; developers who earned less than 1 million USD the year before get an 80/20 split through the Small Business Accelerator Program, applied automatically.
Does the Amazon Appstore take an APK or an AAB?+
Both. You can upload an APK, or an Android App Bundle from which Amazon generates the APK for each Fire device. Every paid SaasToStore build gives you both files, signed with the same key as your Google Play app.
Will my app work on a Fire tablet?+
Usually, but test it on one before you submit. Fire tablets run Fire OS, an Android version without Google Play services and without Chrome by default: anything in your app that relies on Google services — Google push notifications, for example — does not work there. Amazon tests submitted apps on its own devices.
Can I publish my app on Fire TV?+
Fire TV models running Fire OS accept Android TV-style apps: remote navigation, landscape, no touchscreen required. Our Android TV build is made for that, but we have not verified it on a Fire TV device yet, so test it first. Newer Fire TV models running Vega OS do not run Android apps at all.
Can SaasToStore publish to the Amazon Appstore for me?+
Your dashboard can store an Amazon connection, but no customer has published through it yet, so the reliable path today is to upload your signed APK or AAB in Amazon's developer console yourself. It takes a few minutes once the listing is filled in.
How long does Amazon's review take?+
Usually a few days. Amazon installs and tests the app on its devices and emails you the result, with the reason if it is rejected.
Should I publish on Amazon or on Google Play?+
Both, if Fire users matter to you: it is the same build. Google Play reaches far more Android users; the Amazon Appstore reaches the people who own Fire tablets and Fire TV, often families, schools and living rooms, where Google Play is not installed.
