Your app runs your live website, so the tools already on your site keep working inside it. Analytics, tag managers, error tracking and chat widgets need no SDK and no new build. Here's what carries over, how to tell app traffic from web traffic, and what's different.
What keeps working
| Tool | In the app | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics 4 | Works | App visits appear as website visits, unless you tag them |
| Google Tag Manager | Works | Your tags fire as they do on your site |
| Meta Pixel | Works for site events | It doesn't measure app installs |
| Sentry | Works | It reports your site's JavaScript errors, not native crashes |
| Chat widgets | Works | Check that the button doesn't cover your native tabs |
Tell app traffic from web traffic
Native Android, Android TV and iOS builds add SaasToStoreApp to the user agent: Android apps built since July 2026 and iOS apps built since 19 October 2026. Your pages and your server can both read it. The Android Build (Web) runs in Chrome and has no marker.
const inApp = navigator.userAgent.includes("SaasToStoreApp");
const appShell = inApp ? "app" : "web";
// Google Analytics 4
gtag("set", "user_properties", { app_shell: appShell });
// Google Tag Manager (before the container loads)
window.dataLayer = window.dataLayer || [];
window.dataLayer.push({ app_shell: appShell });
// Meta Pixel
fbq("track", "PageView", { app_shell: appShell });
// Sentry
Sentry.setTag("app_shell", appShell);In Google Analytics, register app_shell as a custom dimension to see it in your reports.
What doesn't carry over
- Installs: site tools see visits, not store installs. Google Play and the App Store report installs.
- Native crashes: Sentry on your site sees JavaScript errors only.
- Web push: browser notifications from your site don't work inside the app.
- Native SDKs: Firebase Analytics, Meta App Events and similar SDKs aren't part of the build today.
AdSense: Google requires ads shown in a WebView to go through its WebView API for Ads. The Android Build (Web) runs in Chrome and isn't concerned. The Native, Android TV and iOS builds don't include that API yet. If your site shows AdSense, hide the ads in the app with the marker above, or use the Android Build (Web).
Tracking on iPhone: Apple requires its tracking prompt when an app links people's data with data from other companies for advertising, even through a website inside the app. The app doesn't show this prompt today. If you run a Meta Pixel for advertising, turn it off in the iOS app with the marker above.
