In-app review plugin

2026-11-01· 3 min read· View as Markdown

This plugin opens the rating window of Google Play or the App Store without leaving your app. People rate you in two taps, and those ratings count on your store page. The store decides whether the window appears, and limits how often.

Platforms

Included
  • Android
  • iOS

Used by the native builds: Android Build (Native), Android TV and iOS. The Android Build (Web) does not read these settings.

Choose the right moment

  • After a success: an order delivered, a goal reached, a booking confirmed
  • After several uses of the app, not on first launch
  • Never in the middle of a task

Don't make it the only action of a "Rate us" button. The window may not appear, and the button would then do nothing. For a button, link to your store page instead.

Set it up

  1. Add the plugin

    In your project's plugin library, add In-app review, then launch a new build.

  2. Call it after a success

    One call, optional, from your site's code.

JavaScript API

// after a success, never as the only action of a button
const r = await window.saastostore?.appReview?.request();
// → { requested: true } handed to the store, which decides whether to show it
// → { requested: false, error: "not_available" }
// → { requested: false, error: "busy" } Android: a review window is still open

requested: true comes back as soon as the request is handed to the store. Your code is never told whether a rating was left. error can also be timeout or failed.

Test it

The window only appears in an app installed from Google Play or the App Store. It never appears in TestFlight, and Google may not show it at each try. An answer of requested: true is enough to know your code works.

My website also runs inside a mobile app. Inside the app, window.saastostore?.appReview shows the store's rating window. In a normal browser it doesn't exist, and nothing must change.

Call window.saastostore?.appReview?.request() once, after [A SUCCESS MOMENT], and never from a button. Remember in localStorage that it was called, so that it runs once per install.

Replace the value in [BRACKETS].

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't the window appear?+

The store decides. It limits how often the window shows, and it doesn't show it in TestFlight or in an app installed from a file.

Can I know the rating someone gave?+

No. Stores never share this with the app. Read your reviews in the store's console.

Can I offer a reward for a rating?+

No. Both stores forbid incentives in exchange for ratings.

Can I filter out unhappy users first?+

Don't ask 'Do you like the app?' before calling it to send only happy users. Google and Apple both discourage it.
